hello dear readers 😊😊 as you all know , salted egg yolk flavoured food is all the rage right now ! from croissants to french fry dips to the classic lao sha bao and my favourite sotong coated with salted egg yolk ... you can never go wrong with "ham dan" . so back in February , i was scrolling Instagram when i came across this glorious photo of a salted egg yolk cronut . Now , a cronut is a combination of a croissant and a doughnut , and i've personally never tried a cronut before because this pastry isn't common in Malaysia but i've always seen them in pictures online (i follow lots of food accounts on instagram HAHA) . so naturally , i was intrigued by this cronut and decided i had to try it .
so about a week after Valentine's , i dragged kunyew to brunch with me , to the home of the salted egg yolk cronut called Dotty's , located in TTDI . when we got there , it was around 10.30a.m. and on weekends , they release their cronuts at 11am so we didn't mind waiting . got a seat , thankfully , since the place was REALLY packed , with hopefuls waiting upon those famous cronuts while enjoying normal brunch food such as Eggs Benedict and Big Breakfast .
the place is so so full on a weekend ! decided to go around snapping photos since we had to wait for our cronut because i love seeing pictures of desserts 😋😋
love love love the big window displays of their pastries ! the vibe of it all reminds me of those Enid Blyton books i used to read as a child HAHAHA .
would love to try all the other pastries some other time :p
anyway , we ordered 2 cronuts but the waitress didn't seem very focused in her job because she forgot our entire order -__- lol . after we saw other people getting their cronuts around 11.30am , we asked the waitress about it and she realised that she evidently forgot .. so she hurriedly brought one over and said that was all they had since it was sold out already . was a bit annoyed since it was her fault so she should've took responsibility of it , but whatever .
the cronut actually tasted really good !! preferred this over Le Bread Days's salted egg yolk croissant 😍 loved the fact that there was salted egg yolk filling in the cronut and also drizzled on the cronut , the perfect blend of salty and sweet too .
lighting was good so i took the opportunity to snap a few selfies 😏 fun fact about Dotty's : my friend Lyn told me that one of Marion Caunter's relative owns the place ahahha

after that , we headed to Pickle & Fig , which was a few shops away from Dotty's !
went to Pickle & Fig because i've wanted to try their smoothie bowl for awhile now , since they're pretty known for it . their menu is set on a chalkboard , much like the famous brunch spot , Antipodean . also , spot tky in the photo above hahaha
the Caesar salad was nothing to boast about , but then again , all Caesar salads taste relatively the same everywhere .
the spaghetti itself wasn't cooked to al dente so it was a bit dry , but taste-wise , it was pretty alright . the part i loved most was the pan-fried chicken breast though , soooo crispy and delicious 😍
now for the smoothie bowl . if you know me personally , you'll know that my hands are pretty small . and so , you'll be able to compare the size of my hand to the size of that bowl :-) let me tell you that the smoothie bowl was no bigger than my palm . which was a disappointment , considering it costed RM19 . the cost price , at most , would've been around RM8 only .. they gave barely half a banana , one thinly sliced strawberry , probably half a dragon fruit , barely a quarter of a mango and threw in some shredded coconut and granola . and by saying this , i mean that i'll never come back here again for the smoothie bowl but i might try their other foods , considering what a rip-off the smoothie bowl is 😓
