  Baking a Rainbow Cake !
hey guys , this is yet another scheduled post :p
few weeks ago after i came back from Penang , i decided to bake again ! this time , it was for my friend , Vinn Kee’s birthday :) and this time i decided to bake a whole cake instead of my usual cupcakes . it was my first time baking a full cake so i didn’t know what to expect and kept my fingers crossed the whole time .

but i was so happy cos the outcome was perfect ! yay ! :))

so here i am , to share the process of baking a rainbow cake .

my ingredients + my trusty baking tools !! super love my electronic mixer and electronic scale ahahahah , they’re my best friends :p

oh yeah and also my pretty pretty food colouring ! they cost a hole in a pocket despite their pretty outlook , one small bottle was RM5.50 </3

step one is creaming the butter and sugar together !!

after adding in the eggs and flour …

and the batter is done !! super easy right ? :p

the next step is to separate the batter into 6 different bowls , since i was doing 6 layers .

now here’s the fun part … colouring the batter !

it was super duper fun squeezing out the food colouring and then mixing it and watching the plain-coloured cake batter come to live in vibrant colours ! :))

then add them to the cake pans and off to the oven ! i baked them two layers at a time for 19 mins and they were perfect !

here are the first two layers : red and orange !

and plop out of the cake pan ! the colours are sooo gorgeous <3 anyway it took some skill to get the cake out of the cake pan because they were so fragile DD:

so for the next two layers , i decided to line the cake pans with baking sheets . not a good idea though …

my turquoise and yellow layer came out with a weird shape :(( so for the remaining 2 layers i didn’t use the baking sheets anymore hahaha

so after all the layers are done , its time to trim the layers ! the recipe said to leave it in the fridge for a few hours before trimming it , but who cares ? haha

YAYYYYY ALMOST DONE !

made the buttercream frosting after that . the recipe gave instructions for cream cheese frosting but i had no cream cheese so i made buttercream ahahah . also i didn’t measure the amount of ingredients cos i was so lazy , i YOLO-ed and followed my instincts and surprisingly my buttercream turned out okay ! :D

people probably love frosting cakes , but at this point i was so tired and it was just so troublesome frosting the entire cake :(

AND FINALLY I WAS DONE !!! HALLELUJAH .

THEN .. THE MOST UNEXPECTED THING HAPPENED . my cake stand was at the edge of the table and i was busy adding the remaining frosting to the cake and then .. AND THEN !!!!

UGH I SWEAR MAN I HAVE THE MOST BULLSHIT LIFE IN THE WORLD .
but anyway thankfully it was just a chair and not the floor so it was savable , phew !

after much chaos in the cake-falling event ,

i added rainbow sprinkles and I AM DONE . MISSION ACCOMPLISHED .

super satisfied with the outcome !! :D i was so eager to see the inside of the cake but obviously i couldn’t :(

and boxed the cake !!

in total , this cake took 6 hours to prepare , including the mishaps and cleaning up , but all was well since i had my self-proclaimed holiday :D
next post will be the cake-cutting in lieu with Vinn Kee’s birthday !! stay tuned ! :D
